About artist
For decades art has been an integrated and important part of Malene Birger’s life and work. She is a dedicated and passionate artist and art collector. Creativity is her driving force. Painting, graphic design and visual arts play a vital role in her work and style.
Malene Birger´s art is expressed in strong, abstract and graphic forms, mostly developed in monochrome colours. Her graphic ink drawings have been her signature for years, but she also sketches, paint and create collages. All disciplines present simple proportions and combinations of materials, which are contemporary and distinctive.
After more than 25 years’ experience within the global fashion industry, Malene Birger´s name and brands have secured her reputation for uncompromising style and attention to detail. Malene Birger was born in Copenhagen in 1962 and graduated as a fashion designer at The Royal Academy of Arts in 1989. In 1997 she co-founded the fashion brand Day Birger and Mikkelsen and in 2003 she founded the successful Fashion House By Malene Birger. In 2010 she sold her shares and left the brand for good in 2014. Since then this self-claimed nomad has been flowing between destinations, moving, renovating and creating while developing interior and art projects. Malene Birger currently works from her studio in Lake Como Italy.
